Highberg Solution: Building for a sustainable future

Alex Militaru, the CEO of Highberg Solution, talked to Business Review about the company’s complex tanks for liquid storage and the most challenging projects that have been completed across the world in various industries, ranging from automotive to nuclear energy and data storage.

How did Highberg Solution begin its activity in such a specialised field as industrial liquid storage?

I founded Highberg Solution in 2006, in Ploiesti, with an ambitious vision: to become the main European producer and one of the main global players in the field of liquid and pulverulent material storage. We combined innovation in modular design with the rigour of local manufacturing, offering fast delivery, installation, and maintenance solutions anywhere in Europe, the Middle East or even further afield.

In which areas does Highberg Solution operate today?

Our products serve critical infrastructure, with varied applications: from complex, internationally certified fire extinguishing systems (FM Aprovved, NFPA, VdS) and drinking water networks to the automotive industry, data storage centres, nuclear energy, wastewater, irrigation, the oil sector, and the chemical industry.

How extensive is Highberg’s international experience?

To date, we have successfully completed at least 2,500 projects in over 23 countries. Our tanks have been installed in municipal water networks and industrial complexes in Europe, in petrochemical units in the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

The most challenging example is a project in Greenland we completed last year, 215 km away from the Arctic Circle, where we faced extreme climate and technical conditions, with unimaginable logistical complexity—an achievement for which I congratulate all the colleagues who were involved. I can also mention multiple other projects in the automotive industry, data storage centres, nuclear energy, drinking water, and wastewater.

What differentiates Highberg tanks in the international market?

Our tanks represent a modern alternative to traditional concrete or fibreglass solutions. Made from modular galvanised steel panels, with a 600 g/sqm zinc coating, they assemble quickly using a unique hydraulic technology, eliminating the need for scaffolding or dangerous work at height, which generates an approximately 5-6 times higher assembly speed, easy relocation, and expansion or reduction of stored volume with minimal costs. The interior, sealed with EPDM, BUTYL membranes or many other materials, benefits from a sandwich insulation system between the stored liquid and its metal structure. All our tanks are custom designed according to the seismic zones of installation as well as snow and wind loads. Furthermore, our tanks are recognised for their minimal maintenance costs throughout their lifespan—an essential aspect for clients.

How does Highberg ensure quality and sustainability standards?

Being FM Approved and internationally certified, we are required to maintain quality management with all related checks throughout the design, production, and assembly process, according to the diagrams required by standards, traceability, and waste management.

These are verified annually by external auditors and insurers. Our integrated management system guarantees compliance with the highest global standards. In parallel, we focus on reducing our carbon footprint and support the community through educational partnerships.

What advantages does Highberg offer its clients?

Clients benefit from robust and compliant solutions for liquid storage, designed to withstand any conditions and delivered turnkey. We cover all stages: from consulting, design, and production to assembly and post-installation service. If customised tanks of a maximum of 25,000 sqm are needed for water, fuel, chemicals or fire extinguishing systems, we are and will remain the trusted partner.
